My installation and performance practice explore everyday objects, more specifically clothing as material for performance art. I and interested in the interaction between audience and artwork, I use written directions to ‘direct’ an audience’s participation. My installation presents a pile of mismatched socks with a set of instructions that encourage the audience to interact with the socks in unusual and specific ways. In this interactive encounter between audience and installation – and in response to my set of instructions, new meaning is ascribed to the everyday object. A reversal of this exchange also results in a performance driven by instructions provided by the audience.
