Maskuline

By Rev Sullivan

Maskuline is an experimental film documenting a performance art piece that explores where the genesis of a constructed gendered identity lies. It exists as an addition to experimental queer digital cinema in it's attempt to visualise, satirise, and challenge rigid binaries through renditions of gender performativity. The performance utilises psychosexual fetishistic imagery and it's restricting physical qualities to present various gendered incarnations that disrupt the pleasure principles embedded into the gender binary. Garish and crude, while personal and vulnerable: the film offers the viewer a phenomenological experience akin to that of the artists dysphoria and dissonance within rigid and reductionist binary structures.
