In my work, I seek to combine art theory and art practice using participatory conversation. I do so in a bid to understand the concept of intentionalism in a contemporary art setting. Fellow artists are invited into a live circle conversation to discuss their ideas and works in view of the philosophical concept of intentionalism and the implications it might have for ontological concerns within art - including artistic labor debates, the new post-autonomous condition, and the death of art theory.
These live conversations are then documented by being transcribed into a polylogue essay. This is done in an attempt to maintain the nature of live dialogue in a more permanent form. Examples of essays produced from the circle conversations include: “On the concept of “naming “the artwork, intentionality and authorship”, “Prescribing authorship and intention in the age of found authorship” and “the operation of art theory in contemporary art”.
