DRAWING
My current practice explores the relationship between home and personal possessions as a form of portraiture. I use monoprinting to evoke a sense of immediacy, as if one is reliving a memory or capturing the now. I try to expose the tension between the everyday and the personal; wrapping these monoprints around simple wooden furniture and artefacts.
‘The Bedroom’ is my personal response to the Vincent Van Gogh painting of the same name. In my opinion, Van Gogh’s work epitomises how an artist's life experiences are so intrinsically tied to their art; each impacts the other. As an artist at a turning point, not just in my career, but in my life, I wanted to explore how art has affected where I am today. The bedroom furniture ready to be packed away represents how I’m ready to pack up my life for a new beginning.
