LICA 2023 Festival website: Celebrating the Creative Talents of Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts

This year Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA) at Lancaster University presents its first-ever 'Festival'. On this supplementary website we are thrilled to showcase the remarkable achievements of our 120 graduating students, representing all five disciplines of Architecture, Design, Film Studies, Fine Art, and Theatre, Drama, and Performance.

The 2023 Festival, aptly titled 'DISRUPTION', will feature a diverse range of final projects, including captivating films, mesmerizing artworks, innovative designs, and captivating performances. Spanning across five venues, including the Nuffield Theatre, Bowland Annex, the LICA building, Bailrigg House, and the renowned Dukes Cinema in Lancaster, this festival promises an immersive and enriching experience.

The Festival opens on June 21st.

Sarah Casey, Director of Undergraduate studies for LICA, expresses her excitement, stating, "The festival is an exciting milestone for LICA - it is the first time we have brought together the creative talent emerging from all five of our contemporary arts degree programmes and showcased it to a public audience. Congratulations to the students who have worked incredibly hard to realize this ambitious new event."

The theme of DISRUPTION was born out of the profound impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on these graduating students. With a year and a half of online classes, time away from studios and workshops, and limited in-person interactions, they have delved into what DISRUPTION means to them as young creatives.

DISRUPTION encapsulates the wild creativity, improvisation, and synergy that arose from the pandemic. It represents the solidarity and unyielding passion of addressing injustice through strike action. It signifies a break in the flow, paving the way for new movements and fresh growth to emerge from the ashes.

Join us for DISRUPTION, the result of three years of dedication and the precursor of years of change. Explore the dynamic exhibitions and performances, and witness the transformative power of art.
